Viñedos Hontza

Biodynamic winery managed by Iker García, a young talent strongly stick to his principles. Located in Rioja Alavesa, his vineyards, which have been recovered and reconverted into biological, share landscape with the northern Mediterranean forest of Spain. His wines can be easily identified as Rioja wines, however, Iker escapes from formalisms producing fresher wines, minimizing the use of oak and looking for the fruit.

Natural wine of small and artisan production. Vineyards from more than 30 years planted in bush system, 600-650 meters above sea level. Hand harvested, fermentation with natural yeasts and full grape, mixing both varieties. Only half of the wine ages during 4 months in French oak barrels of 500l. The other half ages during the same period in clay jars. Not filtered, neither clarified nor stabilized

Powerful red colour. Smooth and elegant. A fresh Rioja, with subtle notes of oak but with the prominence of the fruit, regarding berries and aromatic herbs. Medium bodied and balanced
